This is actually the second time that I’ve had the Gerrard Street butter tarts. On first glance, the butter tarts from Girard Street Bakery tend to look a little more like a small actual tart than that of a traditional butter tart. The first thing you really notice is the density the thinner nature of the outside crust. It really leaves this butter tart to not having that crumble ability, and, more so a firm more define bite. The texture is good. The flavor of the crust is nice, but overall its texture that really makes this one different. Now, the filling is somewhat of a medium runny consistency and has the appearance of runny yolk.. There is a slight crust to the top, which is a nice contrast, but the filling does tend to move more towards the sweet side than the subtly sweet of others. In fact when you’re done, it feels as if you had a shot of glucose to the old veins.

And after opening them, the remark was made I think quite rightfully so that the taste texture tend to resemble more of that of what would be a sugar pie. The center being a little bit more granulated sugar than the liquid of other butter tarts, or, the dents custard consistency type leaving a little bit of a sandy taste as your mouth. Considering the flavors and texture of the tart, overall, not a terrible culinary endeavor, but not necessarily something you expect or normally get as a butter tart.
