Frank’s bills itself as the best butter tarts in Ottawa. From the onset upon entering it fits the bill, there is a full section and very wide variety of butter tarts for those who like an assortment of flavors and textures. This place for certain goes through a decent amount of tarts daily.


Are they the best in Ottawa ... they ate not, sorry.





The first thing you noticed with Frank’s is the unique crust. More of a folded pastry molded into a cup than your traditional thumbprint style tart. It does add points the crust that is complimented by the good bite and the taste. It’s not bad. It’s just a bit different and more of a crust Than pastry. The center is kind of average in terms of consistency in flavor. It was OK ... consistency is a little more gooey than your custard type tart and perhaps a little bit more pungent with the butter sweet flavor. Overall not bad I wouldn’t necessarily say it was the best butter tart ... possibly ... top 10 in Ottawa. A wide variety of flavors also available and seemingly made fresh daily. What really defined this when I think is the crust. Whether you like it or hate it I think probably depends on your experience with the crust. For me, someone leaning more towards the traditional, it was a nice change, but not necessarily my preference.

Settled right in the center of three of the show's landmarks; Annina's actually served as the catering for the production team during filming. During covid the show's stars promoted and kept alive the shop though their glowing endorsements. Though butter tarts are a focus, the shop offers a variety of baked goods and small home made food choices.
